The Holy Spirit Is Not for Sale Rekindling the Power of God in an Age of Compromise J Lee Grady R T Kendall 9780800794873 Books Reviews
- David was rebuked by Nathan because "he had given occasion for the enemies of God to blaspheme", in the same way many in the Pentecostal/Charismatic circles have given non-Charismatics (And un-believers) a reason to doubt the legitimacy of this movement. As a pastor in a main-line Pentecostal denomination I will be the first to say that many things have been done (Especially in the last 20 years) that have brought shame to Christ and His church by "hucksters" and those who would make merchandise of the gospel. Lee Grady is a man who I believe has earned the right to speak as a prophetic voice to those within our movement to repent and to do our first works over. His call to return to holiness and to return to moral accountability is something that should be heeded by all who desire a fresh move of God. I enjoyed the read even though at times my heart sank when I read about some of the foolishness that is portrayed by so called ministers. It made me want to go deeper in God and to go the extra mile to be salt and light to both my congregation and our community.
- I like this book because it pointed out failures that happened in the charismatic church but it also pointed out the power of the spirit infused church—it talked about excesses but it also talked about sincere spirit filled people who still see miracles I love the book because it Reinforced my foundation for a Spirit filled life. Thank God for the author and the simple way he let us through the book
- Years ago I have been reading Grady's book What Have Happened to the Fire? on which this new book is build with new material and (unfortunately) new scandals and stories happened in charismatic church since the release of previous volume. And I liked this new book very much, it is written in challenging style, one can only wonder how the charismatics can let Lee to stay in their circles when he is THAT honest.
Pentecostal myself, I have grown tired of the fake "Spirit" stuff while most of the people around us are lost (I live in the most atheistic country in the world, and yet, many charismatics/pentecostals are interested only in their own wellbeing). I speak honestly about what I see and about some of the latest fads, as infamous Lakeland "revival" and got lot of criticism for this. It is so refreshing to see someone actually writes it even in US, where honesty is sacrificied on the altar of "lets just bless one another" and "do not judge others" a long time ago. I mean, not criticism from people who hate charismatics anyway, this is useless, but honesty from my fellow charismatic and pentecostal tribe.
Great way to go, Mr. Grady, but most importantly, you bring your readers back to Jesus, and for this you have my respect! - I love the frankness, freshness, and full disclosure in this book. After being a part of ministry for many many years and recognizing many of the waves he referred to I felt very comfortable reading this book. This book mirrored my own assessment of my life in the church through the years. The title says it all! Thank you for writing this book.
- Lee Grady has done an excellent job of research to expose the underbelly of the church world. Reading the stories of the failures and foibles of those in leadership in the Christian church is sad and depressing but Grady doesn't leave the reader with that. He brings out the positive and the good that the majority of the Christian world is accomplishing today. I finished the book encouraged and inspired that God is faithful and always working in the lives of those who know Him and trust Him. This is an excellent book and will be beneficial to anyone who is interested in knowing more about the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
- The author in an challenging, confronting, and compassionate way exposes sin in the camp.
He calls for repentance, return to integrity, holiness, and godly living. But he correctly
emphasizes that neither individuals, churches,or denominations can accomplish this without the
convicting, changing, empowering work of the Holy Spirit. A must read for persons hungering for
true revival! - This is the best book I have read. I have a master in Christianity and have read allot of Christian books but this is the book that have been the most mind blowing have read. Recommended if you want focus on Jesus and not on the “false hype†in church.
- Honest look at past abuse of leaders and insight to the Holy Spirit in our life. A good read if you have questions of how the Holy Spirit will affect you and those around you.
