Love Blue Amanda Story Gwyn Thorn 9781943432233 Books Reviews

  • A nonfiction work that tells the story of a once precocious little girl who was betrayed by those nearest and dearest to her. At a very tender age, was horribly abused, tortured really, and left for dead. And, while the author could’ve chosen to recount all the horror Amanda knew in her young life, the author, her adoptive grandmother, wanted a light shown on this precious sweetheart, not the horrible creature who left her unable to walk, talk, eat – yet she thrived. She thrived due to the loving family that adopted her, and as the story illustrates, she thrived due to her own fortitude. And, she made their lives more meaningful too.
We all have some education about childhood abuse and recovery. As a former educator and past volunteer for the Child Abuse Council – I was surprised at my personal revelations by reading her story. You may be surprised at yours.

That said, in saving and rescuing Amanda -- her adoptive family received great blessings. Her family, her adoptive family – was her family – not the biological one’s she was removed from, but the one’s who truly loved her. Her family are remarkable human beings – and despite her injuries – she had a full life. A life that could only be given by ones who loved her. Truly loved her.

Why should you read the book? It’s a true story. It focuses on the victim, who refused to be a victim. It focuses on the power of love. And, it demonstrates victims do need vanguards and that our legal system is broken in the worst way. It demonstrates that many of the disabled, may not be as disabled as we think. We have so much to learn. And, that the disabled can love and make the rest of us better. It illustrates that love can win.
  • This book is a must-read—the touching story of a little girl who miraculously survived abuse and was taken in by parents who loved her unconditionally, nurtured her, and blessed her with a life full of enriching experiences and travels. Amanda’s life story not only displays her fighting spirit—how she made the most of her limitations and impacted others—but also is a testament to God’s redeeming love and how He can bring good out of the worst of situations. Gwyn Thorn wrote the book from a loving grandmother’s perspective and did so in a way that flows and makes you want to keep reading. I highly recommend the book Love Blue Amanda’s Story, but readers beware have some tissues ready!
  • "Love Blue" is the true story of a beautiful girl, Amanda, and the incredible significance of her life, despite her numerous physical disabilities, a result of horrible child abuse. It's a story of family and faith ... and overcoming bad things with good. Every life matters.
  • A touching true story of Amanda, an abused child, whose chance for a normal life is ripped away in the most vicious way. Written by her “Granny”, Amanda is given a voice and we learn how she affected so many lives by her only means of communication, the twinkle in her eyes and a smile. A story of love and faith, and the family that believes no life is without purpose.
  • Amanda's story shows the power of love and the importance of treating all people with respect and dignity. Gwyn Thorn told of the immeasurably positive effects Amanda had on all who knew her. What an inspiring, emotional, and wonderful book.
  • I started reading Love Blue and couldn’t put it down. Easy to read and very well written. But most importantly it touched my heart to see how we each can be used to inspire others, no matter who we are or what disabilities we have.
  • This is an amazing story of a remarkable young lady that changed so many lives without ever saying a word! Truly a testament of the power of people and how one person can make a difference!

It brings the voice of a child to life and breaks down the stereotypes of disabilities that exist in this world today. It's amazing how someone so small and who witnessed such pain could end up changing the lives of all who finally came to know and love her, including mine. I was so incredibly blessed to know Amanda and her smile could light up a room! Do yourself a favor and read this book today!
