What’s your first thought when you hear the word “beer”? I’m no mind reader; but if I had to take a guess, It would be that your face is scrunched up saying, “eww”, “yuck”, “that’s disgusting”, “it’s cheap” or “it’s nasty” and the list goes on. But what if I told you that you’re wrong? What if I told you that you haven’t a clue to what beer is? What if I told you that beer is nothing that you think it is and everything that you think it isn’t? What if I told you that beer tastes really good? Would you believe that it’s flavorful and that it pairs great with food? Could you believe that it is a luxury? Can your mind be open to the fact that you have been finessed into believing a lie this entire time; and if you opened your mind and stepped outside of your comfort zone, you may just find your next favorite beverage? Would that be enough for you to hear me out? Yes? Well, walk with me as we take a look at beer and you will see that, “this ain’t the beer that you’re used to.”

  • The realest writing style that is both informative and accessible to all kinds of audiences. Dooch’s story is inspirational. Family, faith, food, fun and more. Highly recommended reading.

I really enjoyed his take on beer history and different beer styles. The whole book was very relatable and takes a balanced and understanding approach to talking about beer. That along with some great photos make it a great read.

The book is very educational. I learned a lot about the Guinness family and all that they did and continue to do both for their employees and the community around them. Beer can have a big impact on people’s lives beyond the brewery and its beers.

I’m a big believer in the idea that beer is for everyone and that there is a beer for everyone. The amount of options that are out there are many, people just have to know they’re out there. I believe this book will do a great job of increasing awareness of all that beer can be!
  • This book is so informative and packed full of great information. At the same time it’s an emjoyable read with memoirs and real life included. I thought I knew a lot about beer, but I definitely know a lot more now!
  • Nice, easy, conversational read. Part memoir and part informational. Great read for those who don’t fit the description of the stereotypical craft beer drinker.
  • Great book. Relatable stories and an honest perspective on the craft beer scene and industry for black and brown people. Encourages the reader to remember their own experiences and raise awareness to the world of “better beer.”
